Cycling track No.1 – Budějcký

Length: 25km

Duration:  1:40 hod.

Difficulty: easy

Destionation: České Budějovice

Přemysl Otakar II. Square is main square of České Budějovice.  Significant is primarily its size and shape, because it creates almost exact square with an area of almost exactly 1 ha. With adjacent parts is the total area of square almost 17 hectares.

An important feature of the square is the Samson fountain. It is one of the largest fountains in the country with a diameter of 17 square meters. In the middle of Baroque fountain is a statue on a pedestal performs four Atlas figures supporting the large circular bowl with a sculpture representing the biblical Samson on a lion.

Right next to the fountain is ,,erratic boulder”. There are rumours that if you step on it after midnight, you get lost and you will not find your way back home.

Black Tower was built in the 16th century. Today it is open to the public and offers views of the surrounding countryside. The tower is 71.9 meters hight. If climb up through steep stairs you can view 7 bells, some of which are woven with legends.

Other attractions of České Budějovice are: Gothic Cathedral of St. Nicholas and Piaristické Square, where you can admire the Solnice (Salt House) and the Dominican monastery of the Virgin Mary.

Destionation: Holašovice

Village on the list of UNESCO is located about 15km from České Budějovice . Its unique complex of buildings in _ peasant Baroque forms a unique complex. Here you will find 23 monumental exceptional farmsteads.

Difficulty: easy

Cycle route: Minipivovar Kněžínek – Čejkovice – Hluboká nad Vltavou- Bavorovice – České Vrbné – Vrbenské rybníky – Minipivovar Kněžínek

Destination: Hluboká nad Vltavou

The town of Hluboká nad Vltavou is approximately 9 km far from České Budějovice and attracts its visitors not only for its Neo-Gothic Castle Hluboká nad Vltavou, but also for many other attractions

These include Aleš South Bohemian Gallery or Zoo Ohrada, which is still expanding over the years.

From České  Budějovice leads through Hluboká farther along the riverside cycle route, which is very popular as with locals as with the visitors.

Destination: Český Krumlov

Who is  in southern Bohemia and does not visit Český Krumlov, perhaps as if in southern Bohemia has not been. The historic town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is particularly significant for its castle and historic center. The castle is after Prague Castle the second largest castle complex in the Czech Republic. In its gardens you can see outside unique theater scene under the stars – Revolving Theatre, which is open during the summer months.

Destination: Dívčí Kámen Castle

The ruins of the Rožmberk Castle – Dívčí kámen- are located nearby the village Křemže. In the vicinity of the castle is an important prehistoric archaeological site, where was situated Celtic settlement and fort. Significant relicts of the settlement are still maintained.

Destination: Třeboň

The spa town Třeboň is situated in a flat area with lots of bike paths, which make this town and its surroundings ideal place for cycling of easier level. The area around the city is full of lakes, thereby the town Třeboň has became a fishing town. From sights should be recommended the castle, main quare in a shape of carp and Schwarzenberg Crypt.

Difficulty: challenging (big altitude diffences on route)

Destination: Kleť Mountain

Above České Budějovice basin rises the highest mountain of Blansky forest – Kleť. Mountain peak with altitude 1083 meters above sea level offers beautiful view of the surroundings. At the very top is a restaurant and lookout tower. A little below you can find the observatory. The top you can reach by walking or go via chairlift. For the fit persons it is possible to conquer the peak even cycling.

 Destination: Kluk Mountain

Mountain Kluk is another popular destination for strolls. Located near the mountains Kleť and near the village Křemže the mountain offers good visibility from a height of 760 meters above sea view of the surroundings.

Cycle route: : By train to Nová Pec (as the starting station you can choose  from two stops- Train Station in České Budějovice or Jižní zastávka in České Budějovice)- Nová Pec – Horní Planá- Hodňov- Polná na Šumavě – Boletice – Chvalšiny – Brloh -Holašovice – Čakov- Křenovice -Minipivovar Kněžínek

Destination: Lipno lake

An important tourist destination of South Bohemia is the lake Lipno, which with its area of 48.7 square kilometers is the largest dam and the largest water area in the Czech Republic. In addition to water sports Lipno offers rich variety of activities in various forms.

Destination: Zlatá Koruna

Village Zlatá Koruna is known primarily for Cistercian monastery from the 13th century. The monastery, which is a national monument, is open to the public. The monastery is popular for weddings and concerts.

Římov village is famous for the unique passion path, which is one of the most important in Czech Republic.

Destination: Vyšší Brod

The most interesting place of Vyšší Brod is undoubtedly the Cistercian monastery, which is open to the public in several tour routes. It is the only functioning male Cistercian monastery in the Czech Republic and one of the most important cultural monuments in South Bohemia.

Destination: Borovany

Another interesting town in South Bohemia is Borovany. There worth visiting the castle, square  or local church. In the surrounding area you can visit the small Zoo Dvorec – park of wild animals.
